Walnut Street FarmWalnut Street is the first land that we've ever owned. Buying this land in 2014 was a historic step for us. It has given us the opportunity to regenerate and invest in developing the land in a way that we've never been able to do at any of our other sites. We removed over 400 tons of debris off the site, including trash, crumbling structures and even an abandoned boat! We've brought fertility back to the soil, and built a 30x48 greenhouse. At three quarters of an acre, the Walnut St. Farm has evolved a lot in the last few years, now home to our Community Farm Store and allowing us to double the amount of food that we can grow! The Community Farm Store also acts as the central pick up location for our GTC EATS! farm share program.
Our Walnut Street site now also boasts a greenhouse, outdoor solar pavilion, and picnic area. Where's it at? 200 Walnut St. |

Hancock Street FarmGTC first began cultivating this site in 2008, and it has evolved a lot since then, including a rainwater catchment system for irrigation and a hoop house for cold season growing. Thanks to Mitchell Machine for letting us use this land!

Central Street Community GardenIn 2002, GTC began cultivating this site under the leadership of Ruby Maddox, Betsy Corner and Kristen Brennan. In 2016, we transformed this land into a community garden, where all food is grown collectively rather than in individual plots. Nearby residents grow, cook, and learn alongside GTC youth and staff who mentor these new gardeners. Currently, the Central Street Community Garden is under the stewardship of the Springfield Food Policy Council.
Where's it at? 488 Central St. |
