Interested in joining GTC's youth program?
Middle & High School-aged youth only
Youth participate in the GTC program year-round, and are represent the core of GTC's work. Youth grow food on our farms, help run our farm store, pop-up markets, and outreach events, and assist with our farm share program distribution. Additionally, youth support initiatives and activities that involve food access and food justice work throughout the city and beyond, engaged through field trips to farms, other non-profits and community groups. Youth receive a small stipend for all work days and access to fresh produce.
Our application process is simple.
We consider applications throughout the year, with the exception being during the winter curriculum period where we work directly with a core group exclusively doing trainings and preparing for the upcoming growing season.
Any acceptance into the program requires a completed application and W-9. Parents/guardians are also asked to attend a brief orientation session to learn what to expect of youth participation. If youth are not ready for the responsibility involved with joining GTC, we encourage them to keep in contact through volunteering or other ways.
Our application process is simple.
- Interested youth start by filling out the application below. Completed applications should be emailed to our Youth Program Coordinator, who will then reach out to discuss next steps.
- Interested youth are asked to volunteer on site during farm work days for three consecutive days to get a sense of program activities and the work involved. It is important that youth show up for all three days.
- After three work days, one staff and up to three youth interview prospective youth. This might sound hard, but really is just a way for the youth and staff to better know applicants, and it is just as important that applicants get to know more about us.
- Following an interview, if we have spots available, we may be able to have youth join the program. If we do not have spots available, youth will be put on the list of potential new farmers that we will contact for our big recruitment times April and late October.
