The first of December will bring an unfortunate decrease to the benefits received by enrollees of the Healthy Incentive Program when the normal $40-$60 in free produce available is being reduced to only $20, regardless of family size. Our interim Executive Director Liz O'Gilvie spoke with The Republican recently about the devastating effect this will have on individuals not just here in Springfield, but across the state. You can see the articles here and here (paywall warning).
Rest assured, the Walnut Street Farm Store will continue to be open through the winter to be an access point for individuals to use both their SNAP and HIP benefits. Feel free to stop in anytime to see what we have available. We look forward to seeing all our regular customers as well as meeting new ones!
