![]() After a few years of research, training (including Growing Power- Milwaukee, WI and Laughing Dog Farms- Gill, MA), and staff learning, GTC- through a Massachusetts Department of Agriculture (MDAR) grant- have been able to purchase our first Hoop House! Although this is not a new technology (some folks refer to it as a "hot house" or "cold frame"), for GTC it is a big step in our continued development toward producing healthy organic local food year round. Our goal is to have at least one or two more on our future site at 200/206 Walnut Street, which would allow us to truly develop our ability to extend well into early winter, and start growing a lot early in the spring. What's been especially helpful is that one of our Board members- local Architect Steve Joblanski- has been crucial in seeing the continued construction of the Hoop House. The goal is to begin to make use of the structure this fall growing salad greens and spinach! The photos displayed are some of the initial phases of construction.
